Random Magazine

Random Magazine is a redesigned magazine project I made when studying at RISD. The magazine is divided into three chapters throughout and features three very different design styles according to the image and content.

Chapter 1: Posthuman Manifesto
To design the first article, I was given the text and photographs of German fashion photographer Katrin Thomas, who has worked for a wide range of international magazines. I combined futuristic fashion photography with a post-human manifesto, using intricate typography and post-production of images to highlight the overall sense of fashion style.

Chapter 2: Philippe Starck
For the second article, I design with material portraying the work of multi-disciplinary designer Philippe Starck. I used illustrations combined with interviews to add a sense of interaction between the characters and the objects, combined with Starck's serious yet fun atmosphere.

Chapter 3: Ballet & Poem
This article covers the work of French photographer Gérard Uféras. The material includes a number of original color photographs portraying the training, performances and backstage activity of the dancers from the Opera Ballet of Paris. I use these images in conjunction with poetry and frames. In this set I aimed to make the images break away from the traditional perception of ballet as unearthly, combining the photographer's backstage shots with a break from the norm and a return to the ordinary.
